microTEC Cluster Conference 2025

Innovations and networking in the focus of microsystems technology

Baden-Baden, 19-20 May 2025 - The Kongresshaus Baden-Baden once again became a meeting place for thought leaders in microsystems technology: this year's microTEC Cluster Conference, organized by microTEC Südwest e.V., brought together around 200 participants - including established industry experts, innovative start-ups and committed students and doctoral candidates.

The annual conference is considered one of the most important networks for microsystems technology in Baden-Württemberg and offers close links to regional industry. Since its foundation in 2005, microTEC Südwest e.V. has established itself as a central platform for professional exchange and technological development.

The KIT Chipdesign House (KCH) was also represented with an information stand for the KIT and presented itself as a strong partner for teaching and networking in the field of microelectronics in Baden-Württemberg. In addition to the long-term goal of establishing a Master's degree program in chip design, the team provided information about current projects.

One highlight was the freely available half-adder soldering exercise, which has already been successfully used at the KIT Campus Day and gives pupils a clear understanding of how adder circuits work. In addition, the advertising campaign for the Synopsys Microelectronics Olympiad was presented - a competition that gives students direct contact with the world market leader for IP in chip design.

As an exciting technical preview, the KCH team presented a preliminary version of the Tiny Tapeout Audio Synthesizer. Although the project is still in the development phase and no written documentation is yet available, it was successfully demonstrated on an FPGA - a promising outlook for future chip design workshops.

A special moment was the visit of Jörg Krauss, Minister of State and Head of the State Chancellery of Baden-Württemberg, to the KCH stand. In a brief conversation, the team was able to personally present the vision and concept of KCH. The KCH appearance was complemented by a contribution from a doctoral student from the Institute of Information Processing Technology (ITIV), who presented his master's thesis on the implementation of Bayesian neural networks as part of the poster competition - an exciting insight into the combination of artificial intelligence and microelectronics.

Conclusion of the event:
The microTEC Cluster Conference 2025 offered an impressive insight into the current developments in microsystems technology in Baden-Württemberg. Well-known companies such as Bosch and Würth presented pioneering innovations and showed how technological advances can be combined with social responsibility. Topics such as sustainability, recycling, COâ‚‚ footprint and energy efficiency were the focus of many contributions and discussions.

In line with the central themes of the cluster conference, the microTEC SuSi Summit will follow shortly, which is specifically dedicated to the topic of sustainability in microsystems technology. In addition, the next microTEC Cluster Conference is already being planned - with the clear aim of further promoting the exchange of ideas on future-oriented technologies. The KCH will also be represented there again to present the latest research steps and projects and to establish contacts.
